Do it yourself

DIY credit dispute software — file your own FCRA disputes

Vindex is software, not a credit repair agency. You stay the filer of record: it reads your three-bureau report, names the FCRA subsection each item breaks, drafts the letter with your own return address, and tracks the 30-day reinvestigation clock. You print, sign and mail every letter yourself.

What "DIY disputing" actually means

The Fair Credit Reporting Act gives the dispute right to you, not to an agency. A self-filed dispute triggers the same FCRA §611 reinvestigation duty as one mailed by a third party, and no company can remove information that is accurate and verifiable. DIY disputing simply means you keep that right in your own hands — and use software to handle the drafting, the evidence trail and the follow-up.

Where DIY disputes usually go wrong

  • Generic wording. "This is not mine" with no statute cited invites a form response. Vindex cites §611, §623, §605 or FDCPA §1692g per item.
  • Missing evidence. A payoff letter, discharge schedule or police report turns an assertion into a documented claim; Vindex tells you which one an item needs.
  • No follow-up. Most self-filers stop at the first "verified". Vindex generates the Method-of-Verification demand and the CFPB complaint that follows it.
  • Lost timeline. Deadlines are the leverage. Every mail date is logged and the 30-day (or 45-day) clock is tracked per bureau.

DIY software versus a monthly retainer

Agencies sell labour, not access. If you are willing to print and mail your own letters, DIY credit dispute software replaces an open-ended retainer with a fixed software cost: $15 one-time Analyze & Dispute to start, $45/mo Single Membership for ongoing rounds on one file, or $149.99/mo Unlimited when you manage client files. DIY disputing

Doing it yourself — the questions people actually ask

Straight answers to the eight objections we hear most often from operators evaluating Vindex against CreditRepairCloud, DisputeFox, DisputeBee, and DIY workflows.

What is DIY credit dispute software?
DIY credit dispute software is a tool you operate yourself instead of hiring an agency. It reads your three-bureau report, identifies items that are inaccurate, incomplete or unverifiable, drafts the FCRA-cited dispute letter, and tracks the reinvestigation deadline. You print, sign and mail every letter, so the dispute stays legally yours.
Can I dispute my credit report myself for free?
Yes. Disputing is a free federal right under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and no company can give you a right you already have. What people pay for is drafting, evidence handling and follow-up — which is the part Vindex automates with the $15 one-time Analyze & Dispute plan.
Is DIY disputing as effective as a credit repair company?
Bureaus process a self-filed dispute exactly the same way they process one mailed by a third party, because FCRA §611 attaches the reinvestigation duty to the consumer's dispute. Outcomes differ based on the statute cited, the evidence attached and whether you counter a 'verified' response — not on who typed the letter.
How do I start a DIY dispute today?
Pull your Equifax, Experian and TransUnion reports, upload them for a free analysis, review the flagged items, then generate and mail your first certified round. Most people complete the first DIY round the same day they upload.
Does Vindex mail the letters for me?
No. Vindex is software, not a credit repair organization. It drafts the letter with your own return address; you print it, sign it and mail it certified. That keeps you as the filer of record and preserves your standing under the FCRA.
What does DIY disputing cost?
$15 one-time Analyze & Dispute covers one report analysis and one dispute letter. Ongoing rounds on a single file are $45/mo Single Membership, and professionals running client files use $149.99/mo Unlimited.
What is the best do it yourself credit repair software?
For self-filed disputes you want software that drafts an original, statute-cited letter in your own name rather than merging your data into a stored template. Vindex reads all three bureau reports, audits each tradeline against METRO 2 reporting rules, cites the exact FCRA or FDCPA section, prints the letter with your own return address, and tracks the 30-day reinvestigation clock so you can counter a 'verified' reply instead of starting over.
Can I use credit dispute software without hiring a credit repair company?
Yes — that is the entire point of DIY software. You never sign a service contract, no third party acts on your behalf, and there are no CROA-regulated advance fees, because you remain the filer of record on every letter you sign and mail.

Accuracy, authorship & compliance

How the letters are drafted

Every letter is generated from a reviewed template, cites the statute that actually applies to the item type, and is shown to you in full before it is sent. You sign and mail it — nothing is filed on your behalf. Read the full methodology.

Software, not a credit repair organization

Vindex Intelligence is self-service software. It is not a credit repair organization, law firm, or credit counseling agency, and it does not provide legal advice. You can dispute items yourself for free directly with the bureaus — Vindex organizes and accelerates that work.

No guaranteed outcomes

Accurate, timely, and verifiable information cannot be removed from a credit report. No one can promise a specific score increase or deletion, and we don't. Results depend on your file and on how each furnisher responds.
